Hey, friends! Let’s talk about digital media and being an author.

Digital media plays a major role in my everyday life, both personally and professionally. From the moment I wake up to the time I go to bed, I interact with multiple forms of digital media for communication, entertainment, work, and education.

The apps and websites I use most are: TikTok, Pinterest, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, and Microsoft Word. I also use Canva often to design creative projects and the app Notion to do my best at staying organized (ADHD does make this difficult). Throughout the day at work, I check email and use the internet for work. I also go to school currently at SNHU so I am on that website or email frequently. Social media is where I spend most of my time though. As an introvert, I love connecting with friends, family, and other authors and readers through social media. When I get overwhelmed or overstimulated, I can simply exit.

Digital media can be positive and negative at the same time. On the positive side, digital media helps me feel connected and inspired. I love scrolling to find creative ideas, book recommendations, and listening to my audiobooks. However, there are negative aspects as well. Sometimes social media is distracting and overwhelming, especially when there is too much negativity. I have noticed it’s far too easy to lose track of time while scrolling through apps.

One thing I notice about digital media in marketing today is how personalized and constant it has become. Advertisements are tailored to individual interests from search history, shopping habits, or even conversations about products. I can’t tell you how many times I have literally mentioned an interest and suddenly there are multiple advertisements for that item. Not to go all conspiracy on you, but the phones are listening!
